In Elton John's Your Song, what do the lyrics "If I was a sculptor, but then again, no..." mean?

I mean, what the hell? What's the point of saying it and then saying
"nah, forget it, I don't want to be a sculptor"?

It's like he couldn't think of anything to say or rhyme!
